A new program to recognize cadets who attain high academic achievement and take pride in DMA and in themselves.  Cadets are nominated by faculty members and Naval Science Instructors and chosen by Shining Seahawk Selection Committee.  The factors that are   invloved in nominating and selecting cadets are scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Cadets can only win Shining Seahawk of the Month once during the school year.  At the end of the year, they are eligible for selection as Shining Seahawk of the Year.

Freshman: Lydia Deppert, nominated by both Mrs. Dick and Ms. Schneider.  Ms. Schneider would like to recognize you for your outstanding work ethic and positive attitude.  Mrs. Dick commends Cadet Deppert for being a leader and a positive asset to the class.  Congratulations, Cadet Deppert! Sophomore: Connor Baker,nominated by Ms. Carson, Cadet Baker is enthusiastic about learning and has one of the most positive attitudes Ms. Carson has seen all year.  Connor helps other cadets to understand and comes into class every day more than ready to work.  Congratulations, Cadet Baker! Junior: Morgan McNutt, nominated by Senior Chief McClain, Cadet McNutt has many outstanding attributes and accomplishments.  She mentors cadets and assists adult volunteers at DMA.  She is also one of the Cadet Representatives for Middle States recertification.  Cadet McNutt is a highly deserving recipient of the Shining Seahawk award.  Congratulations, Cadet McNutt! Senior: Asher Bovankovich, nominated by CW04 Morgan Bahr, Cadet Bovankovich is ranked third in the senior class.  Cadet Bovankovich is truly a positive role model who personally trains cadets to insure that they succeed and always sets an example for her fellow cadets.  Cadet Bovankovich has also recently received a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy.  Congratulations, Cadet Bovankovich!

Freshmen: Cassie Kowalski, nominated by the Commandant Anthony Pullella, has a positive attitude, upbeat personality and always lends a hand wherever needed.  Cassie helped decorate the Senior board to acknowledge college acceptance letters, and is one of DMA's top athletes with a great work ethic! Sophomore: Mark Wellborn, nominated by Brittany Carson and Bonnie Derbyshire, he is a focused and determined young man with a positive attitude about learning.  He is a leader who takes the initiative and will not settle for less than the best Junior:  Zoe Phillips, nominated by John Grant, is 4ft 10.5" full of spirit, she commands respect and leadership through her example of dedication and passion.  She is the energizer bunny of DMA. Senior:  Ian Bruce, nominated by Mark Giansanti, always exceeds expectations.  He is the epitome of what we ask of our cadets at DMA.  In his academics, he excels, in his commitment to the community he is a sterling example and he has never, since day one, failed any leadership challenge.

Freshmen: Chloe McBride, nominated by Ms. Schneider for her honesty and character.  Cadet McBride did not hesitate to pick up money another cadet dropped and return it to whom it belonged.  She works hard in academics and has earned an A average in Spanish I.    Congratulations! Sophomore: Victoria Mobley, nominated by Ms. Carson for her enthusiastic nature and willingness to help others.  Cadet Mobley also accepts criticism well and uses it to better herself.  She always puts forth her best effort and is not afraid to be her own person.  Congratulations! Junior:  Reed Bidgood, nominated by Mr. O.  Although Cadet Bidgood has only been a member of Model UN for a short time he has already successfully stood out at a recent competition for his debating skills.  He represented DMA with pride and excellence.  Congratulations! Senior:  Donald Wiegner, nominated by Ms. Fabian for his quiet determination and leadership.  Cadet Wiegner leads by example, is conscientious and diligent.  He sets an example in all that he does.  Congratulations!

Freshmen: Cadet Emma Thomas, nominated by Mrs. Pisani.  Emma has straight A's in Mrs. Pisani's class for the entire year including the Midterm exam.  She is motivated, mature, kind and patient.  Emma is a hard worker and a positive role model for others.  Congratulations! Sophomore: Cadet Shannon McNames nominated by Mr. Giansanti.  Shannon shows the highest level of effort every day.  She is organized, friendly and outgoing - she truly learns from mistakes and better herself from them.  No matter how high the bar, Shannon exceeds it.   Congratulations! Junior: Cadet Shain Bannowsky has been nominated by Mrs. Novick.  Shain recently competed in the Math League State Competition and was awarded the individual ranking of 2nd place within Region 5.    Congratulations! Senior: Cadet Matthew Ross has been nominated by CWO Hoagland for his performance within the NJROTC program and the compassion and caring that he shows other cadets.  Matthew's countless hours of service and dedication makes DMA and the NJROTC program the best that it can be.  Congratulations!

Freshmen: Cadet Kylie Jones has been nominated by both Mrs. Dick and Mrs. Pisani for her positive attitude and always giving 100% to classwork, class participation and homework.  She is a true class leader.  Congratulations! Sophomore: Cadet James Trentham has been nominated by Ms. Carson.  He has received straight A's in English and exhibits all of the qualities of a stellar Cadet.  He is willing to accept constructive criticism and is not afraid to ask questions.  He is a tremendous Cadet and she considers herself lucky to have him in class. Congratulations! Junior: Cadet Collin Cleveland has been nominated by Major Brooks for winning first place in the academic and performance portion of the Delaware Drive Education Driver Competition.  He has won a $1500 scholarship to any college and also received an individual trophy.     Congratulations! Senior: Cadet Holly Horsky has been nominated by Mr. Prettyman for being a leader and role model in Honors English.  She is thoroughly prepared for every class and often scores the highest in the class.  She is very talented as a writer, has a strong work ethic and an upbeat attitude.  She welcomes and exceeds every challenge with a smile.   Congratulations!
