One Marking Period Down!

Good morning Seahawk Nation!

Welcome back to a new week at DMA!  Believe it or not, interim grades for the first marking period will be distributed this Friday, so we are just cruising right along.  I guess this is what happens when you go back to school in August.

DMA’s teachers have been very good about keeping the HAC system updated with the grades, but should you have any questions, please reach out directly to that teacher. I promise by doing so, you will save yourself some stress down the line.

Here is what is happening at DMA:

  • Tonight (6:30pm) is Service Academy night. This is a great opportunity to learn about Academy appointments, ROTC Scholarships and direct enlistment. It is never too early to explore options.  You never know, something may resonate with your cadet or you, that you were not aware was available through a military option.
  • This Wednesday evening at 7:00pm at Cab Calloway, the Red Clay Board will recognize DMA for becoming a QPA (Quality Program Award) recognized athletic program. Once again, this is a tremendous accomplishment and the first school in the State of Delaware to ever earn this recognition. Of course, winning this award puts us in the spotlight, so our behavior and sportsmanship both on the field and in the stands need to be top-notch. Please remember that when an official makes a call that does not go DMA’s way.
  • Monday, September 26th DMA will be closed in observation of Rosh Hashanah.
  • We will be holding our first evening college workshop of the school year on Tuesday, September 27th at 6:30pm in the Mess Hall. Cadets and parents are invited to hear more about the college process. While the workshop is geared towards senior parents and cadets, all are welcome. We look forward to seeing you on the 27th!
  • Congratulations to Hannah Navarro, who is one of 62,000 students from across the country to earn academic honors from the College Board’s National Recognition Programs! These National Recognition Programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them stand out during the admissions process. Colleges and scholarship programs use these honors to identify students from underrepresented groups through College Board’s Student Search Service. Hannah has been recognized as a National Hispanic Recognition Award winner. Congratulations Hannah!
  • Music Department Report:
    • Last week was a busy one for the music department!  The Marching Seahawks, under the direction of Mr. Grant, performed their first home half-time show with excellence and precision.  The Concert Choir sang the National Anthem at the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony held at DMA.  They also knocked it ‘out of the park’ at the Blue Rocks last Saturday at Frawley Stadium.  We are proud of our DMA cadets who demonstrate excellence in the arts!
  • Parent conferences will be held on Thursday, September 29th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. There are limited spots and they will fill up quickly. You can find teacher email addresses on our website at https://demilacad.org/staff/
  • Sports Report:

We are looking forward to our Hall Of Fame Induction ceremony October 7th during halftime of the football game.  We hope you can all be with us as we recognize and celebrate our Class of 2022 inductees.  We will be sharing with you who they are this week!

Kindly,
