Good afternoon Seahawk Nation,
The Administrative team has been meeting since last evening, and through this morning to discuss our path forward, based on the number of cadets switching back to remote, as well as the Governor’s recommendation to pause hybrid schooling. We reviewed the data that we have been collecting which encompassed confirmed positive cases, direct exposure, as well as remote learning becoming our largest cohort.
The consensus was, that at this time, it is in DMA’s best interest to move back to remote learning beginning December 7th. While it is our goal to offer as much in-person learning as possible, we cannot yet commit to a return date for in-person instruction. We will continue to monitor cases, and work with the State as we follow guidance from DPH and the CDC to determine when it is safe for everyone to return to in-person instruction. From an optimistic perspective, this could be earlier than January 11th, however, it could also be a later date. We cannot realistically make that determination at this time, so again we will let the data from the cases dictate that decision.
Our remote learning will continue exactly the same (0725-1125) as it has been when cohort A or B was remote. Now, all cohorts will log into their classes as they have been and attendance will be taken as they enter the Zoom class. We strongly encourage and expect our cadets to utilize the teacher’s office hours when additional assistance is required or to simply calibrate with their teacher to ensure all parties are on one accord.
The Fall sports post-season will continue as scheduled and we are discussing what the Winter sports season may look like, as we evaluate the entire situation. As you know, the Governor has eliminated Winter competition dates and we are going to review what DIAA passes down on December 10th. You will hear more about the Winter season after we have the opportunity to discuss DIAA’s recommendations. For now, Winter practices slated to begin December 7th are postponed.
Certainly, these are trying times for everyone and the decisions that have been placed in the lap of local control are immense. We will continue to do everything in our power to make decisions that we feel best support our cadets’ education, well-being and keeps our cadets, their families, and staff safe.
