We’ve made it Halfway!

Good morning Seahawk Nation,

It is hard to believe, but we are at the halfway point of the school year.  The rest of this week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) are finals for the first semester.  There is no school for cadets on Friday, January 27th.

Here is what is happening at DMA:

  • There is a DMA Board meeting tonight at 6:00 pm in Talley Hall.
  • We are scheduled to break ground on the Parade Field renovation in early February. We will begin the base work through the winter and complete the project in early spring. This project (once completed) will provide all of our cadets with a safe and useable space for NJROTC, Band, and Athletics, while greatly enhancing the overall campus appearance.  We did a tremendous job in fundraising for this project, but your help is needed to help defray some additional expenses.  You will see that request in the re-enrollment letter in March.  Please reach out directly to me if you have an interest in becoming a primary donor to this project or DMA entirely. We have several ways your support can benefit DMA, as well as you or your company/organization.
  • The DMA 20 Year Gala is shaping up nicely. The date of the event is May 20th and you will be receiving the official invite in the next couple of weeks.  We hope you can join us and celebrate DMA’s 20th year of educating students in the First State.  Please be on the lookout for the invite!
  • Fall semester final exams will begin tomorrow, as well as the midterm exams for our full-year, mini block classes. The cadet uniform of the day during exams will be DMA PT gear. If your cadet does not have an exam during a particular block, they are not required to attend. If your cadet is not in attendance, the parent must write a note (or email Ms. Kryspin) the following day for the absence to be considered excused. The note can simply state that your cadet did not have an exam during this block and stayed home. If your cadet is coming in late or leaving early because they do not have an exam, they must sign-in and sign-out in the drill deck each day. Cadets, who do not have an exam during the first block of the day, should sign in no later than 0850 hours. If your cadet will be picked up (or driving off campus) for an early dismissal with anyone other than the parent or their own vehicle, the note should include this information as well. If a cadet is scheduled for an exam during a particular block, the cadet must remain in their exam block for the entire exam block – dismissal will only occur at the end of a block, not when a cadet completes their exam. Here is the exam schedule:

Tuesday (Block 1 & 2)               Wednesday (Block 4 & 5)               Thursday (block 3 – midterm)

Block 1 – 0720 to 0918                     Block 4 – 0720 to 0918                            Block 3 – 0720 to 0918

Block 2 – 0922 to 1120                     Block 5 – 0922 to 1120                             Make-Up Exam –  0922 to 1120

We hope you have a great week and we look forward to a positive and productive second half of the year.  Please remind your cadet about their appearance in uniform, the reason they chose DMA, and how their conduct/behavior off campus impacts themselves and DMA. We receive calls regularly from the community (good and bad), so help us ensure we are promoting our three core ships of Citizenship, Leadership and Scholarship.

Kindly,
