Happy New Year!

Good morning Seahawk Nation!

Happy New Year and welcome back to the second half of the school year. From now until April 7th (Spring Break), we will refer to this time as “Back to Business.”  Our cadets and Staff have enjoyed a relaxing break and now it is time to put our heads down, buckle up and continue moving forward.

Overall, the discipline for the first half of the year has been good.  We still have the occasional incident of vaping or a class disruption, but in general, the student body complies with, and respects the rules and regulations set forth in the Code of Conduct and DMA Handbook. I challenge all of our cadets to eliminate any outside distractions and to focus on their own personal growth and maturity.

Here is what is happening at DMA as we kick off 2023!

  • Congratulations to Senior Cadet Maria Puka who was personally  notified this morning that she is Senator Coons’ Principle Nomination for the United States Naval Academy this year!  Truthfully, this comes as no surprise. Maria, from day one of her freshman year, has worked feverishly to make her goal a reality.  We all know Maria will make an outstanding female Midshipman and continue to demonstrate that “Can Do” attitude! BRAVO ZULU Maria!
  • From the Yearbook Staff: With the start of the New Year, it brings new opportunities for events to add to this year’s 2023 Porthole.  Don’t be left out of the chance to purchase your book.  Head to www.yearbookordercenter.com and enter our school order #16925 and follow the prompts to purchase your book today before the next price increase.  For our Senior parents and guardians, time is running out to add your additional purchase of the ‘Baby Ad’ for your Senior cadet.  Don’t miss the opportunity to make your Senior’s book even more special.
  • We have received approvals from New Castle County to get underway (weather dependent) with the parade field renovation, so hopefully the base can be laid through the winter months and the remainder of the project will be completed through the spring season.  We are asking our families to contribute with a donation of $100.00 to help defray some of the costs associated with the project. You will see this ask when re-enrollment letters are distributed in March.
  • We have begun the interview process for the Class of 2027 and thus far, we have had exceptional applicants.  We say it every year, but we base the quality of students applying at DMA, on the reputation our cadets have established in the community!  Looking forward to another brilliant and remarkable class!
  • We are closing in on the end of the first semester (January 23rd). Please take the time to review your HAC, communicate with teachers and ensure you are taking the necessary steps required to remain in good academic standing at DMA.

We wish all of our DMA families a healthy, prosperous and productive  and we look forward to the exciting, every day opportunity, to build, nurture and provide a safe, first class educational program to the community at large.

Kindly,
