Spring Season is Here!

Good morning Seahawk Nation,

Welcome back to the last couple of days of February and the beginning of March and the spring season! Today marks the beginning of the spring sports season, with that, the traffic around campus picks up substantially.  Please be mindful of your speed on campus and especially on Middleboro Road. Many athletes are walking to practice at Banning or Richardson Park and we want to ensure they are safe getting to and from designated practice spaces.

Here is what we have happening around DMA:

  • There is a DMA Board meeting tonight at 6:00 PM in Talley Hall TH-4.
  • From the Yearbook Staff: Important updated information for you to be sure to note:
    • Due to an athletics team trip, the Clubs and Senior Class photo date needed to be changed to accommodate so many cadets who would be missing from the photos.  The new date for those photos will be next Tuesday, March 7th.  Please be sure to update your calendars accordingly.
    • The last day to order and create ‘Senior Baby Ads’ is this Wednesday, March 1st.  After this date, yearbooks can still be ordered online, but ads can no longer be created.  Please be sure if any Parents and Guardians of our Senior Cadets would like to add this special feature to this year’s book, you must do so by this date.
    • As we complete the last few sections of our book, we are looking for photos of our Seahawk family and their pets!  This is always one of our most popular spreads in the book, so we are reaching out to our cadets, families, faculty, and staff looking for photos of you and your furry, feathery, feline friends!  Send your photos to dmaporthole@gmail.com by March 15th so you can be included in our book.
  • Sports Report:
    • Congratulations to DMA swimming, who competed at states. They all had personal best!
    • The girl’s basketball team will host Charter School of Wilmington this Wednesday, March 1st at 7:00 PM in the 1st round of the playoffs.

    • Good luck to the Ice Hockey team who will play in the semi-finals on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30 PM at the Patriot Ice Center.
    • Good luck to all of our spring sports athletes starting practices today.
  • The DMA Marksmanship Team competed against First State Military Academy on February 11th& February 25thplacing 1st overall in both competitions.  Additionally, the DMA Marksmanship Team participated in the Secretary of the Navy’s Marksmanship competition resulting in DMA placing 2nd place overall in Area 4 Marksmanship, with Cadet Ava Wycliffe ranking in the top 5% of shooters in Area 4.

  • Any 9th, 10th or 11th grade cadet who has an interest in attending a U.S. Service Academy after graduation is invited to attend a field trip to the US Naval Academy on March 17th. Cadets must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to attend the trip. In addition, any 12th grader who has applied for admission for fall 2023 is also eligible to attend. Cadets should see Mrs. Certesio in Fusco Hall to get a permission slip.
  • There has been a change in the date for the junior ring ceremony in April. The original event was inadvertently scheduled on the first night of Passover. As a result, the new date for the ring ceremony is Tuesday, April 4that 6:30 PM. We hope that all our juniors will be able to attend.
    • Balfour will collect final ring payments on March 23rd during lunch. Cadets can pay during lunch with cash, check or credit card. If a parent would like to pay directly to Balfour using a credit card, they can call Mr. Neary’s office at 856-786-1110. In order for a ring to be distributed at the ring ceremony, the entire balance must be paid in advance of the ceremony.
  • Juniors! It is time to start the college planning process and continue the conversation of “What’s Next after DMA?” Please mark your calendar for the evening of Monday, March 20th for the first of our Class of 2024 parent/cadet workshops. More information will come out, as we get closer.

As always, if there is anything we can assist with on our end, please do not hesitate to reach out!
