Food Drive and College Planning

Good morning Seahawk Nation,

We hope you had a nice weekend and are ready for the week.  The cadets have a short week, with Thursday being a day off in honor of Veteran’s Day and Friday being an In-Service day for Staff.

Here is what is happening at DMA:

  • The positive number of Covid-19 cases for last week (11/1-11/7) was seven (7). The total for the school year is twenty-eight (28). There will be no COVID testing at DMA this Friday. The dates Quidel will be here for the remainder of 2021 are 11/19, 12/3, 12/10, and 12/17.
  • Congratulations to our Fall Sports teams who have had a tremendously successful regular season and are carrying that into the post-season. Unfortunately, we have a few cadets that simply do not know how to conduct themselves during contests; and as you know, folks like to paint with a wide brush, and therefore “DMA” does not conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. We will not punish our cadets who go to games, cheer on their friends and enjoy the game.  However, any cadet who attends a game and acts in a manner that is unsportsmanlike will be removed from the game and harsh disciplinary consequences will be administered.  We have addressed this issue multiple times and the majority have happily complied.  However, there is always that 2% that feel the rules don’t apply to them.
  • Cadets who are scheduled to take a Spring Semester Dual Enrollment course need to complete the registration process now. Registration opened on November 8th at 8:30 am and needs to be completed by November 29th. Cadets should attempt to register this week because several cadets needed technical support from DTCC to complete this process in the Fall.  An infographic and video will be made available to cadets on the Class of 2022 and Class of 2023 Bands.  Please contact Mrs. Tocyloski at tocyloski@dma.k12.de.us  with any questions.
  • All cadets should have received Fall Dual Enrollment Invoices. Payment is due no later than November 19th. Payment, in the form of a check made payable to Delaware Military Academy, should be given to Mrs. Tocyloski or Mrs. Taylor.
  • A message from the PTA: The Holiday Food Drive is well underway! Once again, due to ongoing pandemic concerns, the Delaware National Guard has requested that we collect funds to purchase grocery store gift cards, rather than specific food items. These gift cards will benefit in-need National Guard families and retired or homeless veterans across Delaware. If you are in the position to help this year, we would very much appreciate your support. Donations will be accepted until November 26th. Please use the link below.
  • DMA will be hosting a HANDS-ON FAFSA WORKSHOP on Monday, November 15th in the DMA Mess Hall at 6:30 pm. The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid which should be completed each year to qualify for need-based and merit scholarships as well as the Delaware SEED Scholarship.
  • FAFSA Specialists from Stand By Me will be in attendance to walk you through any issues completing the FAFSA. The goal is that you are able to leave the workshop with the FAFSA complete. In order to attend, you must register in advance and cadets must bring their Chromebook with them. If this date does not work, we will be holding another hands-on workshop on November 15th. Click here to register for the workshop: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FAFSA21
  • DMA welcomes State Treasurer Colleen Davis on Tuesday, November 16th at 6:30 pm. This will be a Zoom meeting where Ms. Davis will discuss the benefits of an Education Savings Plan, the DE529 account. It is never too soon or too late to save for college, so you will not want to miss this informative meeting!
  • Sports Report from the desk of Mr. Jeanne:
    • Congratulations to the Football team who defeated Concord 43-0 to remain undefeated on the season 9-0. The team was named the Class 2A District 1 Champions!
    • Congratulations to the Volleyball team who upset the Charter School of Wilmington 3-1 to advance to the Quarterfinals tomorrow Tuesday, November 9th at St. Elizabeth vs. Newark Charter at 7:30 pm.

    • Congratulations to the Field Hockey team who will play at Tatnall as the 12th seed in the 1st Round of the playoffs tomorrow Tuesday, November 9th at 6:00 pm.
    • Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams who had an excellent showing at the New Castle Meet this past weekend. Good luck to the teams this weekend as they compete at States.
    • Winter Sports: Tryouts begin today. Good luck to all of our Winter Sports athletes.
    • Friday Night Lights: Tickets to the Football game this weekend will be sold online only. Please use the link below https://spicket.events/dma

Kindly,
Anthony Pullella
